Over the past three years, the Esprit de Corps 'Commandos' travelled to Halifax to take on the Royal Canadian Navy 'Titans' in a Charity Hockey Game at the Forum ice rink. The 'Commandos' won the inaugural "Clash of the Titans" game in 2016 by a convincing score of 7:3. However in 2017, the Navy senior brass scoured the fleet for quality hockey players who had no intention of losing a second game in their home port.
The 'Commandos' put up a fair fight but took a dignified loss against a bone-crushing squad of Navy (and Navy affiliated) heavies in the second contest. Final score was 6:3. This year's event will benefit the Cadet Leagues of Canada.
Last year, the RCN Mariners put together an unbeatable squad that demoralized the Commandos on the ice. The Commandos were run out of Halifax bruised and battered with the final score of that match resting at 14-3. This year they hope to balance the teams more fairly to make it an even competition that is fun for all participants.
In total, these charity hockey games have raised over $10,000 for local charitable organizations. Music will be provided by the Stadacona band, Mayor Mike Savage will drop the ceremonial puck, and Halifax's own Rick Howe will be the guest announcer. Hope to see you there!
